Marina sits by a wooden table near the Bluestone Caverns entrance and wears a yellow hard hat. New Ground asks for one Fungstone. She accepts it when you are holding the creature, not merely when it is somewhere in the bag. The completion line is Quest Completed: New Ground.

How do you get Marina?
She is on the entrance landing as you arrive from the Approach jump.
How do you use Marina?
Catch a Fungstone, select it in the backpack so you are holding the grey spotted creature, then talk to her. If she says you have none, select the tile again. If the mouse will not click dialogue, right-click once when camera control is enabled.
