Do these in order — Stop at the step your quest log still shows. Owning an item is not the same as equipping it, and a statue visit is not the same as Pay Respects.
Accept the Wooden Lute — Talk to Leo at the Grove spawn and equip the free lute from the hotbar.
Catch once and turn in — Tune, hold the catch zone, and return to Leo for 1,350 XP and 125 Chimes.
Sell, buy, equip — Confirm the sale, buy the 100-Chime Tamer's Guitar, then equip it in the bag and close the bag.
Find Halden — He is on a log by the campfire and red tents. Five statue respects unlock the Ocarina.
After the tutorial — The next useful goals are an Index target, a stat that matches your failed catches, and Songtreads before the cavern gap.
Pick one missing card — Open the Index on slot 3 and use that card's area and frequency.
Cross to Bluestone — Level 25, Halden's turn-in, then Shax's race for Songtreads.

A stall walkthrough names Jane, by a treble-clef sign near the red houses, as the seller of that guitar, the Adventurer's Tambourine, and the Violin of Pilgrimage. Follow the name printed on the prompt in your session.
What notes play Homeward Melody?
On the Ocarina, play Left, Down, Up, Left. The song returns you to the spawn you have set. That is not always the original Grove spawn.
Does Luck show my chance to catch a rare Scroom?
No. Luck is described as rare attraction. A printed +5% or +40% is an equipment value, not a measured chance for a named species.
